The ampersand text concatenation operator (&):

Concatenates strings; and

Returns a single string with the concatenated items.

Concatenated items (therefore) become strings. In other words: When you concatenate a string and a date:

The date:

Becomes text; and

No longer works as a numeric date value.

Excel displays an unformatted (raw) numeric value. For example, “47484” instead of “01/01/30” or “1 January 2030”.

Use the TEXT function to control how a concatenated date is displayed when creating an Excel concatenate date formula. The TEXT function allows you to control how a date is displayed by applying a date format (you specify).

Excel Concatenate Double Quote Explanation

The CHAR function returns a character specified by a code number. Code 34 (CHAR(34)) returns double quotes.

Therefore, use the CHAR function and code 34 (CHAR(34)) to insert double quotes when:

Concatenating text; and

Creating an Excel concatenate double quote formula.

You can (theoretically) use an additional set of double quotes as escape characters when creating an Excel concatenate double quote formula. The following 2 Excel concatenate double quote example formulas are equivalent.

</p>

'Concatenate double quote with " as escape character
=B6&""""&B7&""""
<p>

In my opinion, using double quotes as escape characters when creating an Excel concatenate double quote formula results in formulas that are more difficult to:

Read;

Follow;

Understand; and

Work with.

Consider the Excel concatenate double quote with ” as escape character example formula above. This formula requires 4 double quotes (“”””) to return a single double quote (“) in the formula output. These 4 double quotes do the following:

The outer double quotes (first and fourth) identify the string literal.

The second double quote acts as an escape character.

The third double quote is the double quote displayed in the formula output.

The ampersand text concatenation operator (&):

Concatenates strings; and

Returns a single string with the concatenated items.

The ampersand text concatenation operator (&) is not the only way to concatenate items. You can find more Excel concatenate formula examples in the More Excel Concatenate Formula Examples section.

Excel Concatenate Number and String Explanation

The ampersand text concatenation operator (&):

Concatenates items; and

Returns a single string with the concatenated items.

Concatenated items (therefore) become strings. In other words: When you concatenate a number and a string:

The number:

Becomes text; and

No longer works as a numeric value.

Excel displays an unformatted (raw) numeric value. For example, “9999.99” instead of $9,999.99)

Use the TEXT function to control how a concatenated number is displayed when creating an Excel concatenate number and string formula. The TEXT function allows you to control how a number is displayed by applying a number format (you specify).

The ampersand text concatenation operator (&) is not the only way to concatenate items. You can find more Excel concatenate formula examples in the More Excel Concatenate Formula Examples section.

For these purposes, StringsToConcatenate are the strings you concatenate. As a general rule: Specify the strings you concatenate as one of the following:

A string, wrapped in double quotes. For example, “Concatenate string”.

A cell or cell range reference. For example:

A1; or

The Excel concatenate strings (without the CONCAT function) template below relies on several cells (1 cell for each string you concatenate). Out of these cells:

How I create the Excel concatenate strings example formula; and

The results I obtain with this Excel concatenate strings example formula.

Excel Concatenate Strings Explanation

The CONCAT function:

Concatenates multiple strings (including strings stored in cells); but

Doesn't allow you to specify a delimiter.

If you're working with an Excel version where the CONCAT function is available, use the CONCAT function to create an Excel concatenate strings formula.

Older Excel versions lack an alternative that's as efficient as CONCAT to create an Excel concatenate strings formula. The most common alternatives involve repeatedly entering the strings (or references to the cells with the strings) you concatenate.

For example, the ampersand text concatenation operator (&):

Concatenates strings; and

Returns a single string with the concatenated items.

Therefore, you can (theoretically) use the ampersand text concatenation operator (&) to create an Excel concatenate strings formula.

</p>
'Source: https://powerspreadsheets.com/
'More information: https://powerspreadsheets.com/excel-concatenate-strings/

=StringToConcatenate1&StringToConcatenate2&StringToConcatenate3&...&StringToConcatenateN
<p>

Implementing this Excel concatenate strings formula template when working with larger data sets is:

Time consuming;

Tedious; and

Error prone.

The Excel concatenate strings (without the CONCAT function) template I explain above allows you to:

Use the ampersand text concatenation operator (&) to create an Excel concatenate strings formula; while

Addressing (to the extent possible) some of the limitations I describe above.

The CONCAT function and the ampersand text concatenation operator (&) are not the only ways to concatenate items. You can find more Excel concatenate formula examples in the More Excel Concatenate Formula Examples section.

Excel Power Query from Workbook (Single Data Source) Explanation

Power Query (Get & Transform) allows you to import data into Excel.

You can:

Connect Power Query to different data sources, including Excel workbooks.

Specify where and how Power Query loads the imported data.

The process I describe above works with Power Query's default data-loading settings. When you import data from a single data source in an Excel workbook, Power Query loads the imported data (by default) to an Excel Table in a new worksheet.

The results I obtain with this Excel concatenate multiple cells with comma example formula.

Excel Concatenate Multiple Cells with Comma Explanation

The TEXTJOIN function:

Concatenates (among others) the items stored in multiple cells;

Using a delimiter (you specify).

The TEXTJOIN function is available in Excel 2019 and later (including Excel 365). If you're working with one of these Excel versions, use the TEXTJOIN function to create an Excel concatenate multiple cells with comma formula.

Older Excel versions (before Excel 2019) lack an alternative that's as efficient as TEXTJOIN to create an Excel concatenate multiple cells with comma formula. The most common alternatives involve repeatedly entering:

References to the cells you concatenate; and

Commas.

For example, the ampersand text concatenation operator (&):

Concatenates strings; and

Returns a single string with the concatenated items.

Therefore, you can (theoretically) use the ampersand text concatenation operator (&) to create an Excel concatenate multiple cells with comma formula.

</p>
'Source: https://powerspreadsheets.com/
'More information: https://powerspreadsheets.com/excel-concatenate-cells-comma/

=CellToConcatenate1&","&CellToConcatenate2&","&CellToConcatenate3&","&...&","&CellToConcatenateN
<p>

Implementing this Excel concatenate multiple cells with comma formula template when working with larger data sets is:

Time consuming;

Tedious; and

Error prone.

The Excel concatenate multiple cells with comma (without the TEXTJOIN function) template I explain above allows you to:

Use the ampersand text concatenation operator (&) to create an Excel concatenate multiple cells with comma formula; while

Addressing (to the extent possible) some of the limitations I describe above.

The TEXTJOIN function and the ampersand text concatenation operator (&) are not the only ways to concatenate items. You can find more Excel concatenate formula examples in the More Excel Concatenate Formula Examples section.

Python pandas Read Excel Worksheet Explanation

The pandas.read_excel function reads an Excel file into a pandas DataFrame.

The pandas.read_excel function accepts more than 20 parameters. The Python pandas read Excel worksheet code snippet template I explain above works with the following 2 parameters:

(1) io:

(In the context of this Python pandas read Excel worksheet code snippet example) A string specifying the Excel workbook where the worksheet you read is stored.

You can specify the Excel workbook using one of the following (among others):

The workbook's filename (for example, “Python pandas Read Excel Worksheet.xlsx”), if the workbook is stored in the same directory as your Python file.

The workbook's full filename (including its path on disk) as a raw string (for example, r”C:\Users\Power Spreadsheets\Python pandas Read Excel Worksheet.xlsx”).

A URL.

(2) sheet_name.

A string specifying the name of the worksheet you read; or

An integer specifying the position of the worksheet you read.

Worksheet indexes are zero-based. The index of the first worksheet in the workbook is 0.

Ignore chart sheets when calculating the worksheet's index.

If you omit sheet_name, Python reads the workbook's first worksheet.

The Python pandas read Excel worksheet example code above works with 2 additional parameters:

(1) usecols:

The columns (in the Excel worksheet) to be parsed. If you omit usecols, Python parses all worksheet columns by default.

You can specify usecols using one of the following (among others):

A string containing a comma separated list of column letters or column ranges.

A list of integers indicating the columns to be parsed. Column indexes are zero-based. The index of the worksheet's first column (column A) is 0.

(2) skiprows:

The rows to skip (when reading) at the top of the Excel worksheet.

You can specify skiprows using one of the following (among others):
